When someone dies at home

When someone dies at home, you should contact the deceased's doctor who will then come to certify the death. If satisfied with the cause of death, the doctor will issue a medical certificate, or you may be asked to collect it from the surgery. Once the doctor has verified the death, you can contact us and we will collect your loved one and bring them to our private chapel of rest.

When somebody dies in a hospital or nursing home

When someone dies in a hospital or nursing home, you will normally be dealing with the sister or staff nurse in charge. They will advise you when and where to collect the death certificate. You should let the staff know if the funeral is to be a cremation, as the doctor will need to prepare papers, and advising them at this stage may prevent delays later. We can then collect your loved one and bring them to our private chapel of rest.

When a death is referred to a Coroner

A death referred to a Coroner isn't necessarily cause for alarm. There are many simple reasons as to why a death may be reported, for example it may be that the person who has died has not seen their doctor for a long time. The enquiry will not necessarily delay the funeral and you should still contact us to begin the arrangements, as we will be able to advise you further.

Registering a death

Once a death has been certified and a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) is in your possession, you need to register the death. If you are unsure about this process please do contact us, we are always here to help or see our registering a death page for more information.

Time to make the funeral arrangements

Whether you need some guidance or have clear ideas on the type of funeral you want to give your loved one, we will meet you to make the arrangements - either at your home, our funeral home or other location, whichever suits you best.

We will arrange all aspects of the funeral service, including liaising with crematoriums, cemeteries, ministers and humanist celebrants. We can also place notices in newspapers, print orders of service, organise flowers and venues for refreshments.
